CHADRON – Tony Tangwall of Whitney has officially announced his candidacy for the District 43 seat in the Nebraska Legislature.

Tangwall is the founder and senior pastor for Spirit of Faith Church in Chadron and raises beef cattle and irrigated hay on his family ranch near Whitney. He also owns a motel in Chadron, serves as President of the Board of Directors for Dawes County Rural Water District and chairs the Dawes County Republican Party.

In a release, Tangwall said he is focused on protecting Nebraska land and livestock, low taxes and preserving what he calls “a culture of life, laws and personal liberty.”

District 43 covers 11 counties in north central and northwest Nebraska, including Custer, Blaine, Loup, Garfield, Rock and Brown counties. The seat is currently held by Sen. Tom Brewer of Gordon, who is term limited after this year.

According to the Nebraska Secretary of State’s Office, Tangwall and former Cherry County Commissioner Tanya Storer are the only two candidates currently running for the seat. The deadline for incumbent candidates to file for any elected office is Feb. 15. The deadline for non-incumbents is March 1.
