Rare 4.2 magnitude earthquake felt in south-central Nebraska

Guide Rock, Neb. — The United States Geological Survey reports a 4.2 magnitude earthquake caused areas of south-central Nebraska to rumble and shake Sunday at approximately 1:30 p.m. CT.

The epicenter of the quake was approximately 6.2 miles north-northeast of Guide Rock. Tremors were felt in several area communities including Red Cloud and just south of Hastings.

USGS instruments measured it as being a Level IV, which is considered a light intensity.

There were no injuries or significant damages reported.
