Leaders of the Nebraska corn industry successfully navigated the legislative process to secure increased financial support for corn-related initiatives.

State Senator Terresa Ibach spearheaded efforts to introduce amendments to the Nebraska Corn Resources Act, proposing revisions to the corn fees levied on sales to bolster support for corn education, research, and market development programs.

The original bill was added as an amendment to LB262 on March 12, which the Nebraska Legislature passed on April 11. The bill passed on a vote of 47 – 0.

On April 16th, Nebraska Governor Jim Pillen signed the bill into law, solidifying the proposed change.

Effective October 1, 2024, the fee will rise from its existing 1/2 cent per bushel ($0.005/bu.) to one cent per bushel.
