September 12th, 2024 | Karla Nichols

During the Custer County Ag Society meeting, several topics were addressed, including the budget, potential upcoming events, and the winter ball.

The Society unanimously approved the 2024 – 2025 budget of $184,230 approved by the Custer County Board of Supervisors. With the savings account at $13,591.17. It was noted that a few invoices are still pending before livestock checks can be sent to exhibitors.

Preparations for the Mid States Rodeo are underway with livestock beginning to arrive for this weekend’s event.

Barns 6,7, and 8 are filling up with occupancies in anticipation of the annual Junk Jaunt, scheduled for August 27 – 29. Campsites with a fee and porta potties will be available during the event.

Jentry Cain, the new office assistant, reported inquiries from individuals and vendors about future events. These included considerations for barrel racers, mounted shooting, and possibly a few circuses.

In addition to hosting potential events, the Sponsorship committee is working on drafting sponsorship packages and exploring ideas for signage.

Charmayne Pop provided an update from the winter ball committee. They are considering the Municipal building hall as the venue, which offers the Ag Society a discounted rate and compared to other options the hall had more available time for set up and teardown. Discussions also covered catering options and musical entertainment for the event.

Before concluding, Blair Ryan reminded attendees of the upcoming public forum meeting on September 22 at 4:00pm. This forum is open to fair-related committees (Superintendents, 4-H Council, Livestock Committee, FFA Advisors, and the public) to enhance communication and organization for next year.
