COZAD – On a day that was originally intended to be a doubleheader, the Cozad Reds and Broken Bow Juniors played just once on Tuesday night, with Cozad winning thanks to a walk-off balk in the bottom of the seventh to win 4-3.

Broken Bow struck first on a warm night, thanks to an error. Cozad would quickly answer with Noah Shoemaker knocking in a run on a single in the first. They would add another run in the second thanks to a RBI single from Owen Ross and went back up 2-1. The in the fourth inning, Broken Bow scored two runs on RBI infield singles from Logan Bell and Jackson Hall to give them a 3-2 lead. Then in the fifth, after getting on base thanks to a dropped third strike, Chayden Hoffmaster stole second and third, and advanced home thanks to an error to tie the game at 3. Thanks to six great innings from Shoemaker including 12 strikeouts, and a scoreless inning from Ollie Davis, the Reds were tied headed into the bottom of the seventh. Matthew Arndt got on to lead off the inning thanks to a hit by pitch, and advanced all the way to third on stolen bases. Then, after the second pitch to Hoffmaster, Broken Bow pitcher Caenyn Priest was called for a balk and Arndt scored to give Cozad the 4-3 lead.

Priest put together a great relief appearance, going 4.1 innings allowing two runs on three hits with 12 strikeouts. Both Bell and Hall had the one hit with one RBI. Shoemaker went six innings for Cozad, allowing three runs on five hits, with only one run being earned, and striking out twelve. Ross finished 2-3 with a RBI.
