Cozad, Neb. — Steps toward recovery are being taken following a weekend hailstorm that caused extensive damage in Cozad. The Cozad Development Corporation (CDC) says the city has filed paperwork to declare the incident as a disaster and have meetings scheduled with state officials to make sure that any assistance available is accessible.

Any business struggling from the storm that needs immediate assistance is urged to call the CDC office at 308-784-8006.

Families that are experiencing hardship due to the storm, can access an application for emergency assistance through the Methodist Church at this link: https://gp-reg.brtapp.com/DisasterFundAssistanceRequest The amount of assistance provided will depend on the number of applications received and the fund’s balance.

The Dawson County Treasurer’s Office reminds anyone who had vehicles damaged during last weekend’s hail storm: If your insurance company has acquired your vehicle through a total loss settlement and a salvage certificate of title has been issued to them, you have 60 days from the date of settlement to apply for a partial refund on your registration.

Please bring in the vehicles license plates, registration, and the settlement documents. Please call us at 308-324-3241 if you have any questions.
