A Cozad man charged with fatally injuring an infant has had his charges enhanced.

NTV News reports that according to Dawson County District Court records, prosecutors filed an amended information Thursday charging Draven Haynes, 23, with committing child abuse intentionally resulting in death and committing child abuse intentionally resulting in injury. The former charge was enhanced from committing child abuse intentionally resulting in injury.

Haynes is accused of slamming a three-month-old boy to the ground when he was crying on Valentine’s Day.

Dawson County Attorney Liz Waterman said the infant died on March 7. Court records said it was brain bleeding and broken ribs that landed the child in the hospital.

The infant’s mother, Jasmine Hopkins, 19, is accused of not taking her baby to the hospital for severe burns. She is charged in Dawson County District Court with committing child abuse intentionally resulting in injury.

Haynes is due back in Dawson County District Court at 9:30 a.m. April 1.

Hopkins’ next court date is set for 9:30 a.m. April 12.
