BROKEN BOW – Custer Economic Development Corporation (CEDC) has issued a statement in response to the Broken Bow McDonald’s closing.

Oct. 31 was the final business day for the restaurant. Owner Greg Hall told KBEAR the decision was based on several factors, including sales trends, profitability and population and employment trends of the city, among others.

A release, co-signed by CEDC Chairman Chris Smith and Vice Chair Jami Anderson, acknowledged that the community is being hit hard by the closing, but reminds residents that panic is not the solution.

“What’s most important is that our community rally around the businesses that are still investing their livelihoods in our community,” Smith and Anderson wrote.

They encouraged residents to shop locally as much as possible. They added that CEDC is continuing to work on addressing housing and workforce concerns in the area but the process can be slow and sometimes difficult.

“The closing of McDonald’s cannot define our community and our future,” they said. “What does define our future is our attitude and our resilience to overcome adversity.”
