Callaway gearing up for Pioneer Picnic

CALLAWAY – The community of Callaway is ramping up to host the annual Pioneer Picnic this week.

A clean up day was held Monday to get Morgan Park ready for the weekend’s festivities. The park will be the epicenter for many activities.

The fun will get started Friday with the first night of the Seven Valleys Rodeo beginning at 7 p.m. There will also be a street dance featuring the Jim Rice Band at Shotgun Annie’s beginning at 8 p.m. and karaoke at Henry’s Bar beginning at 9 p.m.

Saturday will start early with a fun run at 8 a.m. The parade will begin at 10:45 a.m. on Kimball Street and there will be activities throughout the afternoon at Morgan Park.

Saturday night Henry’s will host a street dance starting at 8:30 p.m. featuring Nebraska artists Hockett, the Drew Phillips Band and Downtown Nowhere. Henry Moore said he worked with Luke Mills to put together the lineup.

Sunday the Seven Valleys Rodeo will continue with the slack at 10 a.m. and the final performance at 5:30 p.m. There will also be a kid’s tractor pull at the park at noon and bingo at 1 p.m.

The new Callaway Aquatic Center will open at noon all three days.
