BROKEN BOW – As the 4th of July approaches, the Broken Bow Police Department would like to remind the public of the city’s ordinances regarding the use of fireworks.

Firework stands were allowed to open at 10 a.m. on Tuesday and will be able to operate from 9 a.m. to 11 p.m. each day through July 4. Fireworks can be discharged within the city limits from 9 a.m. to 11 p.m. through July 3 and from 9 a.m. to midnight on the Fourth.

Police will typically issue a warning the first time fireworks are used outside the allowed hours. After that a citation may be issued for disturbing the peace.

It is also illegal to set off any fireworks inside a building or near any person or property in a way that could expose them to injury or damage. It is also illegal to throw fireworks from or into any vehicle, onto a street or sidewalk, into a building or toward any person.

“For your own personal safety and the safety of the community, we ask that you use caution with your display,” Police Chief Steve Scott said. “And after your celebration, the Broken Bow Police Department requests that you clean up your mess. Please gather up the paper and other refuse and dispose of it properly.”

Anyone with questions can call the police department’s non-emergency number at 308-872-642.
