BROKEN BOW – A Broken Bow man is facing numerous charges, including attempted murder, after a shooting earlier this month in Merna.

According to court documents 19-year-old Carsen Wilson is facing a total of 15 felony counts, including two counts each of attempted first degree murder and first degree assault, as well as charges of domestic violence, stalking, terroristic threats, and several weapons charges.

According to an arrest affidavit, a woman told sheriff’s deputies she was Wilson’s former girlfriend and they had recently broken up. On the evening of Oct. 2 she picked up a friend in Merna around 10 p.m.

The woman told deputies that shortly afterward Wilson began following her vehicle in and around Merna for about half an hour and brandished a handgun toward her. At one point she said he fired three shots at her vehicle, causing she and her passenger to panic.

The woman says she hit the brakes after the shots were fired. Wilson stopped in front of her and got out of his vehicle with the gun in his hand. The woman drove forward to get his license plate number and Wilson left.

Deputies pulled Wilson over about a mile outside of Broken Bow. He admitted to following the woman and that he had a gun in the vehicle. A search revealed a 9 mm pistol in a holster under the drivers seat. The gun had a 12 round magazine with four rounds still in the gun and one in the chamber and the barrel was warm to the touch.

Wilson was booked in the Custer County Jail with bond set at 10% of $1 million. A preliminary hearing is set for the afternoon of Oct. 28.
