BROKEN BOW – A change to liquor ordinances and a conditional use permit for an ag implement dealer were among the items approved by the Broken Bow City Council on Tuesday.

The council voted to make a slight change to its liquor laws to allow for on-sale alcohol sales before noon on Sundays. The change would only apply to the sale of alcohol that is consumed on-site at restaurants in the city and would allow sales to begin at 10 a.m.

Bill Butler of Legends Neighborhood Grill requested the change. He noted that Legends, which opens at 11 a.m. on Sundays, often has wedding parties and others who stop in for brunch and would like to be able to have a mimosa or bloody Mary.

It was noted that the change would only affect three restaurants within the city, one of which is closed on Sundays. Both Kinkaider Brewing and the Broken Bow Country Club are outside the city limits and would be unaffected.

The council also approved a conditional use permit for AKRS Equipment to build a new location for sales and service of ag implements north of Memorial Drive and east of Highway 2 near the Berean Church.

Jeff Ray of JEO Consulting said this was a first step and AKRS would next have to get approval from the Nebraska Department of Transportation to allow for access to the location off of the highway. If that is not approved there are alternate plans for access from Memorial Drive instead.

The council also gave the green light to a billing agreement between the Ambulance Service and First Response Billing Associates. David Baltz told the council that the ambulance service needs to expand its billing capabilities as its ability to offer advanced life support continues to grow.

The city also approved the sale of surplus property, including multiple former police vehicles. Sealed bids for items will be accepted at the Municipal Building through the close of business on May 10.
