BROKEN BOW – The Broken Bow City Council gave final approval Tuesday to an amended set of ordinances regulating mobile vendors in the city limits.

The measure constitutes a complete rewrite of Section 113 of the Municipal Code as well as adjusting fees for mobile vendors to receive a permit from the city.

The amended version made a few slight changes with regard to how much area around the stall within which a vendor is responsible for trash, providing more leeway for flags and advertising and allowing vendors to obtain duplicate permits if they operate at multiple locations.

The fee schedule was also simplified and made clear that those who pay for a full year permit would not need to pay any additional charge for Market on the Square or special events. The cost of a daily permit for food vendors increased from $25 to $35 while the cost of a yearly permit is doubled to $250.

The changes were made after vendors raised some concerns about the previous versions of the ordinances and a special committee discussed the issue further. City Administrator David Schmidt estimated that about 80 man hours were spent on the issue.

Tropical Sno co-owner Tim Freburg of Gothenburg, who raised concerns at the previous council meeting, thanked the mayor and council for listening to vendors and making changes.

Mayor Rod Sonnichsen and members of the council thanked everyone who provided input and helped make the law fair for all parties.
