Overview:
The Winnebago Boys Basketball Team looks to compete at a high level once again this year and have another good season. 2nd year Head Coach Treivan Bear says this year’s team will look quite a bit different than last year’s though.
Departing Seniors from last year include Duran Blackfish, Kevin Tebo, Tyrese Lovejoy, Destin Vargas, Dyami Berridge, and Warrick Lonewolf.
Coach Bear says the offseason wasn’t Winnebago’s best, and the kids are still trying to catch up and get into playing shape and are behind in that regard.
I’m real curious to see how the Indians fare this year.
I think Winnebago could do well, but there’s a lot of talent to replace and big shoes to fill.
Season Outlook:
Winnebago looks to keep things going this year. Coach Bear says it won’t be easy.
I agree with Coach Bear on all of that.
The Indians are in Sub-District C1-7 with West Point-Beemer, Logan View/Scribner-Snyder, Wayne, and Wakefield. Coach Bear says he’s already seen the Cadets play.
I think Winnebago can and will contend in that Sub-District, but Wakefield could be tough.
The Indians host Homer in the season opener on Thursday. Coach Bear says the Knights are kind of in rebuild mode.
I think Winnebago can get the season-opening win on Thursday.
That being said, it will be interesting to see which way this season goes for the Indians.
I feel like the schedule is favorable at the start of the season, but it gets tougher in the 2nd half.
