OMAHA, Neb. – The Mavericks were unable to complete the sweep of Northern Colorado today as they were narrowly edged out 3-1 in the series finale.

Despite the loss, Omaha remains the winningest team in Summit League play with a 10-8 record in the conference and 12-23 overall record. Conversely, the Bears snap a four-game skid to improve to 8-29-1 on the season and 7-10-1 in conference play.

Innings 1-5
Harrison Kreiling continued the trend of excellent starting pitching from the Mavericks during this series as he fired five no-hit innings to start his day. He struck out four batters and walked two on 80 pitches through the first five.

As for Omaha’s bats, this was the first time in five games that the team did not score double digit runs. That said, the team did hold a 1-0 lead after five innings thanks to an RBI double from Matt Goetzmann to drive in Zach Lechnir in the bottom of the third after he led off with a double.

Innings 6-9
The Bears managed to get on the board in the top of the sixth after Carson Gross broke up the no hitter with a one-out bunt single. A walk and another single would allow UNC to tie up the game, but thanks to an inning-ending strikeout from Joe Hackmann, who entered with two outs, that was all Northern Colorado would get.

UNC would tack on two more runs in the eighth and ninth innings, the latter being unearned, to take its first lead of the series at 3-1. Though the Mavericks got a man on second in both innings, they were unable to bring them home as the Bears took the final game of the series.

Inside the Box Score
With the Bears’ game-tying run in the sixth, Omaha’s consecutive innings streak with a lead ended at 37.2 innings, dating back to the third inning vs. South Dakota State last Saturday.

On Deck
With the homestand complete, the Mavericks are on the road for the next couple of weeks, starting with a 6 p.m. game on Tuesday at K-State in Manhattan, Kansas.
