TULSA, Okla. – For the first time this season the Mavericks were swept in a doubleheader as they opened their series at Oral Roberts with an 8-3 loss in game one followed by a 12-1 loss in seven innings in game two.

Despite the losses, Omaha remains second in the Summit League at 14-26-1 overall and 12-10-1 in conference play, while the Golden Eagles are still in last at 19-26-1 with a 9-12-1 league record.

Game 1
Following a scoreless first three innings, the Mavericks got on the board first in the top of the fourth on an RBI groundout from Cardel Dick. Unfortunately, this would be the only time Omaha would lead in the game as ORU immediately responded with a four spot in the bottom of the inning to take the lead for good.

A single off the bat of Zach Lechnir and over the head of the shortstop would cut the deficit to 4-2 in the top of the sixth, only for the Golden Eagles to add four more runs over the next two innings. The Mavericks briefly got something going in the top of the ninth as Tyler Palmer and Haiden Hunt started the inning with back-to-back pinch hit singles followed by an RBI single from Tyler Bishop, but that was all Omaha would get.

Game 2
Four Maverick errors in the first two innings of game two quickly gave Oral Roberts the advantage as the Golden Eagles capitalized to the tune of six runs, including four unearned. Omaha’s first run would again come in the top of the fourth, this time on a single up the middle from Jackson Trout to make it a five-run game. An inning later, though, ORU would blow the game wide open after scoring six runs in the fifth to make it 12-1 en route to a seven-inning victory.

Inside the Box Score
Omaha’s consecutive series win streak will end at five, tying the 2024 team for the longest streak in the program’s Division I history.

Matt Goetzmann’s hitting streak came to an end after 11 straight games after not recording a hit in game one today.

On Deck
The series concludes tomorrow at 2 p.m. as Harrison Kreiling (1-1) takes the mound opposite Joshua Caravalho (0-2).
