The newest member of the Nebraska Public Service Commission received a warm welcome as he attended his first Commission meeting on Wednesday, February 8th.

35-year old Christian Mirch was appointed by Governor Jim Pillen as the new District 2 Commissioner. District 2 encompasses all of eastern Douglas County including the heavily populated Omaha metro.

“I join my fellow Commissioners and staff in welcoming Christian to the Nebraska Public Service Commission,” said Commission Chair Dan Watermeier. “We look forward to his contribution to the agency as we continue our work to bring quality services to the citizens of Nebraska.”

An attorney and law enforcement officer, he earned his Juris Doctorate from Creighton University in 2018, while working for the Omaha Police Department. In his 10-years with the department, he served numerous roles to include criminal investigations and the special operations section-gang unit. Upon leaving the department, Mirch clerked for the Honorable Michael G. Heavican, Chief Justice of the Nebraska Supreme Court. After completing his clerkship, he engaged in both private practice and public service as an attorney.

Commissioner Mirch said, “I want to thank Governor Pillen for this opportunity. There is a lot to be excited about at the Commission and I look forward to immersing myself in all aspects of the regulatory process.”

Commissioner Mirch will fill out the remaining four years of a six-year term. He replaces Crystal Rhoades who vacated the position last year after being elected to serve as the District Court Clerk in Douglas County.
