SIOUX CITY, IOWA – Dominant pitching performances powered Morningside to a pair of Great Plains Athletic Conference wins as Northwestern came to Sioux City and MercyOne Field. The Mustangs followed a 3-1 opener with a 2-0 complete game win.

GPAC Pitcher of the Week, Kai Purdy-Burton, took the mound in game one, throwing six innings and giving up one run, striking out seven as he scattered seven hits across the outing. Mason Hymer collected the save as he closed the door in the seventh inning.

Eddie Brancato took at least a momentary place in the history books, claiming the career doubles record as he knocked his 54th career two-bagger. Jayson Willers had the only other extra base hit of the first contest, knocking no. 41 in three seasons.

Jacob O’Dell accounted for all the offensive production in game two, blasting a home run over the left field wall to bring in the only two runs in the contest.

Cade Nolan was on the mound for the complete game shutout, giving up four hits and striking out six.

Morningside is home again on Saturday, playing Hastings at 1 p.m. at Lewis and Clark Park.
