NEWARK, N.J. Baylor Scheierman had a season-high five three-pointers, including three in a four-minute span down the stretch to lead Creighton to a 75-62 road win at Seton Hall on Wednesday night.

The victory, Creighton’s record seventh straight in BIG EAST play, moved the Bluejays into sole possession of third place with a 16-8 overall record and a 10-3 league record.  Seton Hall fell to 15-10 on the year and 8-6 in league action.

Creighton fell behind for the first time at 16-15 after Seton Hall scored five points in 21 seconds before the Bluejays countered with an 8-0 run that featured two Ryan Kalkbrenner free throws and one three-pointer each by Ryan Nembhard and Mason Miller. Miller’s trey gave the Bluejays a 23-16 lead and represented CU’s first bench points in the past three games.

The final minutes of the first half became a battle of attrition as both teams struggled with foul trouble. CU led 36-27 before Seton Hall countered with a 10-2 run to take the lead, but a Nembhard lay-up on CU’s final possession of the half gave the  Jays a 40-39 lead at the break. CU shot 58.3 percent from the field and 50 percent from three-point range. The Jays owned a 17-7 rebound edge at the break, but also had 10 turnovers that led to 10 Seton Hall points. Kalkbrenner and Baylor Scheierman each had 10 points at the break, while Al-Amir Dawes made all four of his shots and led the Pirates with 11 points at intermission.

Seton Hall scored 10 of the first 13 points of the second half to open up a 49-43 lead by the first media timeout as the Pirates forced CU into four turnovers. Creighton battled to retake the lead at 53-51 on a lob pass to Kalkbrenner.

The Bluejay defense stepped up, holding Seton Hall scoreless for over five minutes during an 8-0 run featuring a pair of buckets from Arthur Kaluma and a corner trey by Scheierman to move ahead 61-55. Ninety seconds later Scheierman buried his fourth triple of the game to give CU a 66-57 lead, its largest of the game. After an Amir-Dawes trey, Scheierman sank another triple from the left wing to give CU a 69-60 lead. The Jays then forced a stop and found Nembhard in transition for a nifty reverse lay-in to give CU a 71-60 lead at the final media timeout.

Scheierman had 19 points and eight rebounds while Kalkbrenner finished with 13, Nembhard 15 and Kaluma 11. CU shot 12-for-20 from three-point range in the victory and outrebounded the Pirates 35-16.

Seton Hall was paced by 19 points from Dawes.

Creighton returns home on Saturday at 1 p.m. when it hosts No. 21 Connecticut
