The Central Community College volleyball team won at Cloud County Community College, 3-2, on Monday night.

The Raiders won the first two sets, 25-23 and 25-14. The T-Birds answered with victories in the third and fourth games, 25-16 and 25-18, which set up a winner-take-all fifth set. In the final stanza, CCCC appeared to be headed for victory with a 14-7 advantage. However, CCC scored nine straight points to win the set, 16-14, and take the match.

“I Was so proud of our resolve and our ability to play error free when it counted the most,” said CCC head coach Mary Young. “Our players showed a tremendous amount of poise, grit and heart in the final set when it would have been easy to concede to Cloud County.”

Morgan Juranek and Josie Richards each recorded a dozen kills, while Kamryn Chohon tallied 39 assists. Chloe Odbert finished with 26 assists. Richards also served up five aces.

With the win, CCC goes to 8-8 on the season.

The Raiders will take part in the Cowley Invitational Tournament on Friday and Saturday in Arkansas City, Kan. On Friday, CCC will take on Metropolitan (Mo.) Community College at 4 p.m., followed by the host Cowley Tigers at 6 p.m. On Saturday, the Raiders will battle Carl Sandburg (Ill.) College at 9 a.m., before wrapping up with Cisco (Tex.) College at 1 p.m.
