CCPPD celebrates Public Power Week

West Point, NE – Cuming County Public Power District joins other public power entities across the nation celebrating Public Power Week, an annual event coordinated by the American Public Power Association, Oct. 3-9.

Nebraska is the only 100% public power state in the country. The value proposition of public power is as valid today as it was in 1933, when the Legislature created this unique business model. Our state’s electric utilities join more than 2,000 other public power systems in the U.S. taking the time to reflect on the benefits of public power and recognize how publicly owned utilities provide electricity to the 49 million customers they collectively serve across the country.

Public power’s primary hallmark is local control. Nebraska’s electric utilities are governed by individuals locally elected or appointed who are accessible and accountable to the customers they serve. It’s local people serving local people.

“All public power utilities share the common goal of providing reliable and safe electricity for their customers at a reasonable price,” said Chet McWhorter, CCPPD General Manager. “Public power works because we are community-owned and governed by local decision-making, and because we are staffed with hardworking employees who care about the community and take pride in serving our friends and neighbors in our area.”
