The Briar Cliff volleyball team fell in straight sets to Dordt Wednesday night in the Newman Flanagan Center.

The Chargers struggled to get the offense going, posting a -.068 hitting percentages throughout the three sets. Chloe Johnson led BC with six kills and hit .160.

BC took their first lead of the night in the third set, 5-2 after a Sami Wasmund service ace and Dordt error. Dordt would take control with nine straight points, and later took a 22-11 edge. A Jaice Johnsen ace and a pair of solo blocks from Wasmund pulled the Cliff within five, 17-22. Three straight points from the Defenders closed out the match.

“I’m proud of the way Sami continued to put up a strong block and take the ball at Dordt, because those points gave us new life,” said head coach Lindsey Weatherford. “Jaice’s serving brought us back into set three, and she was very focused on putting us in a good position to play defense by serving tough. I give credit to Dordt for being relentless and taking advantages of moments where we let up.”

Tannah Heath had 11 digs, followed by eight from Emma Porter and seven from Abbey Jones. Wasmund totaled three solo block and one ace. Johnsen had two aces, and Porter had six assists.

The Chargers are back in action Friday night against Concordia in Seward, Nebraska. First serve is set for 7:30 p.m.
