Briar Cliff Baseball takes Doubleheader from Dakota Wesleyan

Behind strong pitching, the Chargers went 2-0 against the Tigers of Dakota Wesleyan with a 9-0 victory in game one and 5-3 victory in game two at Bishop Mueller Field Thursday afternoon.
 
Game 1 – W, 9-0
The Chargers got on the Tigers early in the top of the first, as Diego Trujillo led off with a single and swiped second the next at-bat. Walker Moore doubled to left field to drive in Trujillo to give the Cliff a 1-0 lead.
 
In the top of the second, Jared Sitzmann led off with a double followed by a bunt from Jake Chronic to put runners at the corners with no outs. Easton Cone reached base on an error and Sitzmann scored on the play. A balk by the Tigers pitcher scored Chronic.
 
In the top of the third, Cam Riemer drew a walk followed by a RBI-triple from Rance Bryant to put the Chargers up 5-0. Sitzmann lined one to deep right field to score Bryant the following play.
 
Kyler Steinborn shutdown the Tiger bats, tossing a complete game shutout, allowing seven hits while striking out 11.
 
Moore went two-for-three at the dish with four RBIs, while Sitzmann went four-for-four with two RBIs.
 
Game 2 – W, 5-3
 
In a repeat of game one, Trujillo led off the contest with a single. This time, Walker Moore hit a two-run blast over the right field wall to give BC a 2-0 lead early.
 
In the top of the sixth, Trujillo reached base after being hit by a pitch followed by a Moore drawing a walk to put runners on first and second with no outs. Cade Marquardt hit a chopper back to the pitcher, who tried to make the force out at first, sailed the ball over the Tigers’ first basemen’s head. Moore and Trujillo scored on the play and Marquardt made it to third base.
 
Bryant capped off the Chargers scoring with a RBI-single to left field to drive in Marquardt.
 
Carter Schorg got the start for the Cliff in game two, tossing six innings and allowing two runs on five hits while striking out six. Bryant came in to close the contest in the mound, after the Chargers found themselves in a bases-loaded jam with no outs. The Charger defense were able to escape the jam and preserve a 5-3 victory.
 
Moore went one-for-two with two RBIs in the contest.
 
The Chargers move to 12-12 (6-2 GPAC) on the season. They will return to action Friday, as they conclude their four-game series against Dakota Wesleyan at Bishop Mueller Field. Game one is slated for 11 a.m. with game two following shortly after.
