Blair City Council Recap

Blair City Council Recap
May 8th, 2024 | Connie Green

Blair Mayor Mindy Rump declared May 15th as Peace Officers Memorial Day and the week of May 15th as National Police Week at Tuesday night’s city council meeting. The Bids for the milling and overlay work were awarded to Western Engineering, and financing for a non-lawyer assistant to the city’s attorney was approved. Financing for a position of a non-attorney assistant for the City of Blair was also approved.  We asked Blair City Administrator Phil Green about the unique job posting:

Among the needs for a full time attorney, Green says the full time attorney position in the future will also service the legal needs of the Blair Executive Airport, coordinating changes from State and Federal sources regarding new laws, along with all of the legal aspects of the town’s economic growth.

A representative of the Small Business Administration addressed the Council, saying that help centers for those businesses and individuals dealing with tornado damage have not yet been established, but will be shortly.  Until then, it’s recommended you check on disaster assistance online at lending.sba.gov.  Low interest loans for homeowners, businesses and non-profits impacted by tornados are available.

Also at that meeting, Lindsay Burton, finance director with the City of Blair, tendered his resignation to be effective at the end of the month, Burton says he was not seeking employment elsewhere, but was contacted to fill a position elsewhere.  Burton would have had a year in the position next month.

Tuesday night, the Blair City Council met right after the Planning Commission due to the Primary Election next Tuesday during the council’s regular time to meet.  For the same reason, the Washington County Board of Supervisors will be meeting this coming Monday at 3pm rather than Tuesday.
