NEBRASKA: For the week ending October 6, 2024, there were 6.9 days suitable for fieldwork, according to the USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service. Topsoil moisture supplies rated 36% very short, 40% short, 23% adequate, and 1% surplus. Subsoil moisture supplies rated 30% very short, 43% short, 26% adequate, and 1% surplus.
Field Crops Report: Corn condition rated 4% very poor, 8% poor, 21% fair, 46% good, and
21% excellent. Corn mature was 88%, near 92% last year and 87% for the five-year average.
Harvested was 27%, near 29% last year and 24% average.
Soybean condition rated 3% very poor, 8% poor, 25% fair, 48% good, and 16% excellent.
Soybeans dropping leaves was 96%, near 97% last year and 94% average. Harvested was 46%,
near 45% last year and 42% average.
Winter wheat planted was 87%, near 88% last year and 84% average. Emerged was 37%, well
behind 57% last year, and behind 46% average.
Sorghum condition rated 1% very poor, 3% poor, 19% fair, 49% good, and 28% excellent.
Sorghum mature was 79%, near 78% last year, and equal to average. Harvested was 16%, near
17% both last year and average.
Dry edible beans dropping leaves was 92%, near 94% last year and 96% average. Harvested was
76%, ahead of 63% last year, and near 74% average.
Pasture and Range Report: Pasture and range conditions rated 17% very poor, 29% poor, 33%
fair, 18% good, and 3% excellent.

KANSAS: For the week ending October 6, 2024, there were 6.8 days suitable for fieldwork, according to the USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service. Topsoil moisture supplies rated 25% very short, 47% short, 28% adequate, and 0% surplus. Subsoil moisture supplies rated 23% very short, 48% short, 29% adequate, and 0% surplus.
Field Crops Report: Winter wheat planted was 52%, near 51% last year and 50% for the fiveyear average. Emerged was 21%, near 24% both last year and average.
Corn mature was 97%, near 96% last year, and ahead of 91% average. Harvested was 67%,
ahead of 60% last year and 52% average.
Soybean condition rated 6% very poor, 14% poor, 32% fair, 41% good, and 7% excellent.
Soybeans dropping leaves was 85%, near 86% last year, but ahead of 77% average. Harvested
was 30%, behind 35% last year, but ahead of 22% average.
Sorghum condition rated 10% very poor, 15% poor, 36% fair, 34% good, and 5% excellent.
Sorghum mature was 76%, ahead of 70% last year and 67% average. Harvested was 26%, equal
to last year, and ahead of 20% average.
Cotton condition rated 6% very poor, 20% poor, 32% fair, 37% good, and 5% excellent. Cotton
bolls opening was 84%, behind 92% last year, but ahead of 76% average. Harvested was 10%,
near 8% last year, and ahead of 5% average.
Sunflowers harvested was 32%, near 33% last year, but ahead of 15% average.
Pasture and Range Report: Pasture and range conditions rated 12% very poor, 25% poor, 43%
fair, 19% good, and 1% excellent.
