College Rodeo Athlete Preview: Ali Vaughn

Ali Vaughn has been rodeoing for as long as she can remember. The Hershey, Nebraska native and former Nebraska High School Rodeo standout is headed to the next level.

With her name on the roster at Laramie County Community College in Cheyenne, Wyoming, Vaughn spent the summer preparing to make the transition. She did not skip a beat, competing at amateur rodeos across the state.

“I tried to do a lot more of it on my own because I knew I would be on my own [once I got to college],” Vaughn said. “That really helped me prepare.”

Vaughn will compete in breakaway roping and team roping while pursuing a degree in agricultural business. She will team rope with Valentine, Nebraska’s Hayes Hammond.

When it came to selecting LCCC, Vaughn says she felt right at home.

“All of the facilities were so nice and the team was very welcoming,” she said.

Though a college rodeo rookie, Vaughn has big goals for the upcoming year. The former NHSRA state champion breakaway roper has her sights set on qualifying for the College National Finals Rodeo.

“I set the bar pretty high for myself,” said Vaughn. “I would love to make it to the CNFR and am putting in the work every day to reach that goal.”
