Handgun Recovered Following Pursuit on Foot at Rest Area Near York

YORK COUNTY-  At approximately 4:00 P.M. on Sunday, June 7th, 2020 the York County Sheriffs Department was dispatched to the rest area on I-80 near mile marker 355. They were called to the area in reference to an individual that was breaking the windows out of a vehicle in the parking lot. When arriving at the scene with the Nebraska State Patrol, the subject fled on foot. Sheriffs Deputies and troopers were able to find the individual at a farmstead and take them into custody.

York Countys K9 unit was deployed and Loki located items that were believed to be discarded by the individual. A loaded handgun that the individual discarded while being pursued was found. The suspect was arrested for multiple charges relating to drug possession and firearm possession by a prohibited person. Names are not being released of the offender due to age, as they are a minor.
