Cherry County remains America’s top beef cow county

The top beef cow county in the United States of America is once again found in Nebraska.

Cherry County, located in the northwest portion of the state, holds onto the top position with more than 184,688 beef cows, according to data compiled as part of the U.S. Census of Agriculture.

A second Nebraska county claims the number two spot, with Holt County being home to 92,518 beef cows on 607 operations.

Custer County checks in at number three with 90,465 beef cows on 633 operations.

Lincoln County made the top ten list, sitting seventh, with 75,582 beef cows on 441 operations.

Drovers compiled a list of the top 34 Beef Cow Counties, which states that Nebraska ranks as the nation’s fourth in terms of total beef cows.

The list indicates the top 34 counties features 20,687 producers with 2,253,482 cows for an average herd size of 109 head.

Texas leads the nation with the most beef cows, followed by Oklahoma.
