Rumors of threats on social media not related to Kearney Public Schools

Kearney, Neb. — The Kearney Police Department is aware of recent rumors circulating on social media platforms, including TikTok, regarding threats related to nationwide events and, specifically, to the Omaha area. KPD has investigated this report specifically as it pertains to Kearney and find no credible threat to Kearney Public Schools. We want to assure our community that these rumors have been thoroughly investigated by KPD and found to be unsubstantiated. These rumors are not related to Kearney Public Schools or our local community.  

Kearney Police Department and Kearney Public Schools are committed to maintaining the safety of our schools and community. KPD is in daily communication with KPS to ensure a safe environment for all students and staff.  

We also want to take this opportunity to remind students and community members of the importance of reporting any unusual activity or threats they hear, even if they initially seem like a joke. Reporting any suspicious or concerning comments or behaviors to the proper authorities can help prevent potential incidents. Our new Safe2Help app provides a confidential platform for anyone to report such concerns anonymously.  

The safety and well-being of our community is our top priority. KPD will continue to work closely with KPS and other local authorities to monitor any potential threats and take immediate action if necessary.
