Pillen Retains Hilgert as Veterans’ Affairs Director

Lincoln, Neb. — On Veterans Day Friday, Nebraska Governor-elect Jim Pillen announced he will be retaining John Hilgert as the Director of the Nebraska Department of Veterans’ Affairs.

“John has decades of experience working to improve the lives of veterans across the state of Nebraska,” said Governor-elect Pillen. “His experience and steady leadership will be invaluable to continue providing high quality services to our veterans and ensuring Nebraska remains the best place in the country for veterans to live, work, and raise a family.”

Hilgert has served as the Director of the Nebraska Department of Veterans’ Affairs since 2001. Previously, he served in the Nebraska legislature where he represented parts of downtown and South Omaha. Hilgert is an Army veteran of the Gulf War, having served with the First Infantry Division. He holds a B.S. in Business Administration from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and a J.D. from Creighton University School of Law.
