GIBBON, NE – The Buffalo County Sheriff’s Office (BCSO) reports the Gibbon Volunteer Fire Department responded to a house fire Tuesday night near Navaho Road and 39th Road southwest of Gibbon.
BCSO says Shelton and Kearney Volunteer Fire Departments assisted Gibbon VFD in battling the fire.
According to a statement by the BCSO the fire appeared to be caused by a lightning strike from severe thunderstorms that moved through the area Tuesday evening.
All occupants of the home made it out safely. However, one family dog perished in the fire.
The Buffalo County Sheriff’s Office extends their sincerest gratitude to the dedicated firefighters from Gibbon, Shelton and Kearney for their swift and courageous efforts, and their hearts go out to the family during this difficult time.
