Loomis wins, Minden falls at State Baseball

Hartington-Loomis got off to a great start in the Class C Juniors baseball tournament with an 8-3 win over Albion on Saturday night. Loomis scored four runs in the bottom of the 1st inning and never looked back. Loomis added a run in the 3rd inning and three more in the sixth. Albion struggled defensively in the game as they committed five errors while Loomis had just one. Jace Schukar and Ben Trompke led Loomis at the plate as they each had a double and Gavin Norris hit a home run. On the mound, Graham Trompke got the win in relief as he pitched 4 2/3 innings as he struck out seven while giving up just two hits. Loomis who is now 19-2-1 will play Pender on Sunday night at 7pm.

At the Class B juniors tournament, Minden dropped a heartbreaker 3-2 to Crete. Minden rallied for two runs in the top of the 7th but it wasn’t enough. Crete grabbed the lead with a run in the third and then scored two more in the 5th. Minden struggled at the plate as they had just three hits on the day. Luke Grollmes drove in both runs for Minden. Cade Harsin took the loss for Minden as he threw the complete game. He gave up just one earned run, while giving up six hits and he struck out two. Minden is now 17-6 on the year and will play Lincoln Christian in an elimination game at 10am on Sunday.
