Loomis, Neb. – Loomis wasted no time in filling the girls’ basketball head coaching position vacated by Derek Billeter less than two weeks ago. Early Tuesday morning, the school officially announced Nolan Benjamin as Billeter’s successor.

As a 2020 Loomis graduate, Benjamin is no stranger to the community or the players he’ll be coaching next season. He attended school in Hershey for the first three years of his high school career. Despite a short time in Loomis, Benjamin says he’s very familiar with the culture of Loomis Wolf sports.

During his time in high school, Benjamin participated in football, basketball, and golf. After graduating, he attended college at the University of Nebraska at Kearney where he is finishing up his education degree. Benjamin is pursuing elementary education, K-6, and physical education for grades 7-12.

At just 23 years at the beginning of next season, Benjamin will be one of the youngest head coaches in the state. Wolf fans can rest assured that Benjamin will bring experience with him, however. This past season, he was an assistant with the Lexington boys’ team and has four years of AAU coaching experience.

Coach Benjamin will take over a squad that went 11-14 this past season. The Wolves also bring back the bulk of that team with just two seniors graduating this spring, including this year’s top three scorers.

Nolan Benjamin chats with KUVR’s Jon Schilling about the new opportunity.
