Over a year after being officially charged, a Kearney man is now behind bars for
sexual assault.

Buffalo County court records show Leontae McDowell, 23, is charged with two
counts of First Degree Sexual Assault.

The charges are Class II felonies with a maximum penalty of one to 50 years in
prison.

An affidavit detailing the charges have been sealed, but a complaint says the
alleged crimes happened in October 2022 involving the same victim.

The victim was younger than 16 at the time the alleged crimes occurred.

A warrant for McDowell’s arrest was issued in September last year, but McDowell
wasn’t arrested until October 18, 2024.

He was arraigned on the charges on Monday, where his bond was set at 10% of
$250,000.

His next hearing in the case is scheduled for November 14, 2024 at 11:00 A.M.
