Interstate-80 reopened following crashes
Westbound traffic was diverted off Interstate 80 at the Kearney interchange(mm 272) for a period of time on Sunday April 21, 2024 due to an accident near Elm Creek.

Lexington, Neb. — Interstate-80 traffic began flowing again shortly after 6:00 p.m. following crashes that backed vehicles up for much of Sunday afternoon.

Nebraska 511 reported that Interstate-80 westbound was closed from Kearney to Elm Creek. Kearney Police Department reported that the Nebraska Department of Transportation closed Interstate-80 for westbound traffic at Kearney due to an injury crash at mile marker 256 in the eastbound lanes involving three semi trucks. I-80 eastbound was also closed at Lexington.

Kearney Police Department said a secondary crash occurred east of Elm Creek near mile marker 257.

Nebraska 511 asked drivers to use an alternate route for several hours. Traffic was diverted to Highway 44 south to Highway 6 and Highway 34 to go west from Kearney.
