Holdrege Wins Big over Cozad

COZAD – In the home finale for the Cozad Reds, the home team struggled and lost their final game at home in the regular season, dropping the game 16-6 to the Holdrege Wilkins ADP Juniors.

Holdrege got things going early, scoring two runs in the first thanks to a balk and a RBI single from Nick Taylor to go up 2-0. Then in the second, Holdrege cored six runs sending 12 batters to the plate. Elijah Bergstrom had a RBI single in the inning, and Landon Hartzog knocked in two run as well to put Holdrege up 8-0. Holdrege added three more in the third thanks to another RBI from Taylor, and a two RBI single from Chance Bailey and were up 11-0. Cozad did begin to fight back in the bottom of the third, thanks to RBI singles from Matthew Arndt and Ethan Atchison. Right when Cozad started to get some momentum, Bailey hit a three run home run to put the game out of reach. Both teams scored a couple more runs, and Holdrege won 16-6 in five innings.

Hudson Otto got the win for Holdrege, going three innings allowing two run on four hits with three strikeouts. Bailey went 2-5 with five RBI’s, Eli Kidder scored five runs, and Taylor was 2-4 with two RBI’s. Owen Ross took the loss for Cozad, allowing eight run across two innings. Chayden Hoffmaster was 2-4 with two runs and two RBI’s, with Gage Strauss having a two RBI single in a pinch hitting appearance.

Cozad falls to 11-3 while Holdrege improves to 17-2.
