RAVENNA – An exciting night at Ravenna ended in a heartbreaker for the First State Bank Seniors. Holdrege entered the bottom of the 7th inning with a 5 run lead over the Ravenna Blue Jays. Spearheaded by a 3 run home run off the bat of Ravenna’s Trey Mieth, the Blue Jays battled back to win 12-11.

Holdrege had a surge of offense throughout the game, starting the first 4 innings with a leadoff baserunner. It all came together in the 6th inning when Trey Weaver hit a 2 run home run, followed by Carlos Nino De Rivera’s 2 run homer just 2 batters later. It seemed this would be the night the First State Bank Seniors would earn their first win of the season. However, it was not meant to be. Holdrege was plagued with errors in the final inning before giving up the walk-off single that clinched the win for Ravenna.

With major improvements at the plate, along with the hope of fielding a full team very soon, Holdrege looks forward to better days. Coach Waller is emphasizing defensive efficiency and hopes that everything will come together soon for his squad.

Carlos Nino De Rivera was almost unstoppable at the plate. He led Holdrege going 4-5 with a home run, a run scored, and 4 RBIs. His success with the bat and his impressive play behind the plate earned him the Husker Irrigation Player of the Game.

First State Bank will travel to Ogallala on Sunday June 6th in search of their 1st win.
