Developing depth is the key for Duster track and field in 2024

Holdrege, Neb. – The Dusters are locked and loaded for their 2024 track and field campaign. With around 60 students participating this year, Holdrege looks to develop their depth as the season progresses. Head coach Jason Hale is optimistic for not only this season but the future as well. His optimism is well-founded with around one-third of the roster filled with freshmen by his estimates.

To some, that may look like a disaster waiting to happen, but coach Hale has another luxury in his arsenal: experience. As many programs across the sporting world have relied on, Holdrege will benefit from an athletic and capable group of upperclassmen to help develop this larger-than-average freshman class. Hale has set a crystal-clear goal of creating depth for the season, and he’s ready for the task.

In recent years, the Dusters have had many individual successes with multiple state qualifiers and medalists. With the added numbers this season, Holdrege will also be able to focus on the team aspect. One can only speculate how early competitions will go, but the 2024 Dusters should be a force as the season continues.

Coach Jason Hale sat down with KUVR’s Jon Schilling.

The Dusters were in Kearney on Friday, March 15, for their season-opening indoor meet. They open up their outdoor season with a pair of home meets. On Tuesday, March 19, they host Alma and Bertrand for a triangular. On Friday, March 22, the Dusters host their annual invitational.
