Loomis, Neb. – The search is on for the next head coach of Loomis girls basketball after Derek Billeter stepped down this past week. As a Loomis native and long-time coach, Billeter became an assistant coach when his oldest daughter began high school. His decision to step away from the program has similar motives with his son moving up to high school next year. After nearly 10 years as an assistant and head coach, Billeter is looking for a little more family time.
Billeter has been a part of Loomis basketball for many years, starting as a youth coach at various levels. He loves the Loomis community and has devoted a lot of his time to help kids grow through the game of basketball. Despite his decision, Billeter plans to continue contributing his time at the youth level.

He made sure to talk to his team directly about the decision. Over the past decade, Billeter has grown to love his team and the student-athletes that have come through with each season. While he won’t be on the bench during games, Loomis fans can still expect to see plenty of Derek Billeter. “I’ll always be a Loomis Wolf, and I’ll always cheer for them,” Billeter said.
As a head coach the past four seasons, Billeter has compiled 36 wins. He’ll no doubt find comfort in knowing the Wolves are trending upward after improving during the 2023-24 season. Loomis finished 10-15 and has a strong roster to build off of next year.
