Broken Bow wears down Holdrege in gritty win

Holdrege, Neb. – Friday’s game at Keifer Field was a tough, and sometimes choppy, performance between the Dusters and the Broken Bow Indians. Holdrege fell 26-7.

Offensive yards and points were hard to come by in the first half with both teams heading to their locker rooms with seven points each. Broken Bow would use a trick play and savvy defense to quickly break the tie. On third and long, the Indians changed the whole game with a 51-yard touchdown pass from receiver Dom Nowak to Coy Wardyn.

With a 14-7 lead, Bow’s defense stunned the Dusters on their ensuing drive. Landon Hartzog threw a pass to Nick Weides on a quick slant, but Aiden Markham read the play perfectly. He jumped the route and intercepted Hartzog’s pass in stride. Markham ran it into the endzone, giving the Indians a 20-7 lead. Broken Bow added another touchdown later on to bring down Holdrege’s hopes of a comeback.

The Dusters lone touchdown came on a one-yard run from Kegan Steinke on a drive that began on the Indian’s 31-yard line. Holdrege had a short field after recovering a muffed punt. The Dusters fell to 2-4 and suffered their fourth-straight loss. They head to Gothenburg next Friday.
