Bertrand looks to ‘hit the ground running’ in Stutheit’s 2nd year as HC

Bertrand, Neb. – The Vikings have momentum coming into the 2024 football season. Bertrand may have finished with a loss to rival Loomis pushing the Vikings out of the postseason last year, but they finished 3-1 down the stretch as first year coach, Trey Stutheit, was able get his team comfortable with the changes.

Head coach Trey Stutheit talks with KUVR’s Jon Schilling about the upcoming Bertrand football season.

Coach Stutheit plans to use that momentum to start their season a little ahead of where they were last year at this time. He says his team was able to grow into their offense as 2023 continued, and this year they won’t have to deal with those “growing pains”. After losing just four seniors to graduation, the Vikings will also have experience on their side. They’ll take all of that experience as Bertrand also looks to use nearly everyone on the varsity level. Stutheit says the team will rely heavily on the sophomore and junior classes.

The schedule will also feature some new teams for Bertrand including Cambridge, Arapahoe, Kenesaw, and Brady.

The Viking football season will begin at home against Kenesaw on Friday, August 30, at 7:30 pm. The Blue Devils finished last season with a loss to Ainsworth in the playoffs. They had a 4-5 record in 2023.
