Wayne C. Olson, 84 years of age, of Holdrege

     A Private Family Memorial Service for Wayne C. Olson will be held on Thursday, December 16, 2021, at the Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church in Holdrege, Nebraska with Pastor Kenton Birtell officiating. A private family inurnment will be held at a later date at the Prairie Home Cemetery. 

     Wayne C. Olson, 84 years of age, of Holdrege, passed away, on December 13, 2021, at his home in Holdrege. Wayne was born in Holdrege, on September 18, 1937, the youngest of two children, born to George and Louise (Freed) Olson. He received his primary education from a rural school south of Sacramento, Nebraska and later attended and graduated from Holdrege High School, with the class of 1954.

     Following his education, Wayne worked as an electrician for the city for a few years and then for the USDA.

     On May 26, 1957, Wayne was united in marriage to Dorothy F. Hammond at the First Baptist Church in Holdrege and to this union four children were born: Bonny, Brenda, Robert, and Lori. The couple made their home near Holdrege, where Wayne farmed until his retirement in 1998. Following his retirement, he continued to help his son farm as long as his health permitted. The couple wintered in Estes Park, Colorado for many years and enjoyed their time there.

     Wayne enjoyed leatherwork and making stained glass windows for his family and close friends that they will treasure forever.  In his later years, Wayne came to know Jesus and accepted him as his personal savior. 

     Wayne was preceded in death by: his parents; one great-granddaughter, Hope Martin; one nephew, Kenny Olson; and his brother, Gayle Olson.

     Wayne is survived by his wife, Dorothy Olson of Holdrege; children: Bonny Kroeker and her husband, Glen of Juniata, Nebraska; Brenda Martin and her husband, Theron of Wilcox, Nebraska; Robert Olson and his wife, Kristin of Holdrege; and Lori Clark and her husband, Lonnie of Longmont, Colorado; 10 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; one sister-in-law, Claire Olson of Holdrege; along with a host of nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.

     There will be no visitation or memorial book signing; the family is honoring his wish for cremation.

     A memorial has been established in Wayne’s honor, and kindly suggested to the Phelps County Christian Charity Fund at Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church; 1419 East Avenue, Holdrege, NE 68949.
