A Graveside Service for MaryAnn Woollen will be held on Thursday, June 13, 2024, at 3:00 p.m. at Freewater Cemetery in rural Harlan County, Nebraska.

A Memorial Service will follow at 4:00 p.m. at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Wilcox, Nebraska with Reverend Kenton Birtell officiating.

MaryAnn Woollen, 91 years of age, of Wilcox, died on Friday, June 7, 2024, at the Kearney Regional Medical Center in Kearney, Nebraska.  MaryAnn was born on the family farm in Gosper County, Nebraska, on November 30, 1932, the second of two children, born to Emil and Anna (Stubbendeck) Pargman.  She received her education from a country school and then attended and graduated from Bertrand High School with the class of 1950.

Following her education, MaryAnn began working at the Bank of Bertrand.

On January 25, 1953, MaryAnn was united in marriage to Nordon Woollen at Hope Lutheran Church at Smithfield, Nebraska.  They began to make their home in Wilcox.  The couple was blessed with three children:  Valerie, Angela, and Shawn.  Later, the family moved their home to a farm northwest of Wilcox, where MaryAnn focused on her family’s needs.

MaryAnn enjoyed phone calls with friends and family, needlework, playing cards, singing and playing the piano, reminiscing about her German heritage, and maintaining her yard.  Her family will remember her as the ultimate prayer warrior.

She was a member of the St. John’s Lutheran Church.

MaryAnn was preceded in death by an infant brother; her parents; a grandson, Brooke Peterson in 2015; and her daughter, Valerie Peterson in 2021.

MaryAnn is survived by her husband, Nordon Woollen of Wilcox; her children: Angela Selgren and her husband, Erick of Ft. Collins, Colorado; and Shawn Woollen and his wife, Cindy of Wilcox; five grandchildren: Sonia Dake of Ft. Collins; Marissa Woollen of Loveland, Colorado; Jalyn Folkerts and her husband, Tim of Seward, Nebraska; Hannah Howard and her husband, Drew of Johnson City, Tennessee; and Sam Woollen and his wife, Katie of Wilcox; five great-grandchildren:  Seth, James, and Wayne; and Wyatt and Roan; along with many nieces and nephews; great nieces and great nephews; along with other relatives, and friends.

A visitation will be held on Wednesday, June 12, 2024 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Bauer-Torrey & Mach Funeral Home in Wilcox, with the family greeting friends from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

A memorial has been established in MaryAnn’s honor, and kindly suggested to St. John’s Lutheran Church in Wilcox.
