 John Stoelting, 65, of Thornton, Colorado, formerly of Orleans

     A Mass of Christian Burial for John A. Stoelting will be held on Wednesday, November 15, 2023, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Orleans, Nebraska with Father Maurice Current officiating. Burial will follow at the Orleans Cemetery in Orleans.

     John Albert Stoelting, 65 years of age, of Thornton, Colorado, formerly of Orleans, passed away on November 3, 2023 following a courageous battle with cancer. John was born on January 7, 1958, in Orleans, the youngest of four children born to Gordon Marion and Veronica Regina (Backes) Stoelting. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. 

     He received his primary education from Harlan County District #4, west of Orleans and then Orleans High School, graduating with the class of 1976. He then pursued higher education at Central Community College in Hastings, graduating with a degree in Electrical Technology. 

     Following his education, John worked alongside his father at Stoelting Electric, and in 1987, took over the family business. During this time, John also enjoyed farming west of Orleans. 

     On November 6, 1993, John was united in marriage to Andrea LeeAnn Wheeler in Orleans and John welcomed Andrea’s son, Zackary with open arms. The couple was then blessed with a daughter, Schenae and the family made their home in Orleans. John worked at Becton-Dickinson and in 2009, the family relocated to Westminster, Colorado. Andrea preceded him in death on April 2, 2010. 

     On February 17, 2012, he was united in marriage to Cynthia Joyce (Merrell) Hamilton in Golden, Colorado. Along with Cindy’s two children, the two families became one. John was the maintenance manager for Safeway Bakery in Denver, Colorado, until his retirement in May of 2015. 

     John was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was a handyman and skilled woodworker. Family was most important to John and he loved spending time with his children and grandchildren. He loved watching his children and grandchildren participate in all their activities and sporting events and was proud of their accomplishments.

     He was preceded in death by his parents and first wife, Andrea.

     He leaves to celebrate his life, his wife, Cynthia Hamilton of Thornton, Colorado; son, Zackary Seyler-Stoelting; daughter, Schenae Stoelting of Commerce City; step-daughter, Melissa Wolf and her husband, Thomas of Broomfield, Colorado; step-son, Christopher Hamilton of Thornton, Colorado; daughter-in-law, Kendall DeCarlo of Littleton, Colorado; grandchildren, Savannah Wolf and Harper Hamilton; sister, Carolyn Stoelting of Stamford, Nebraska; brothers: Jim Stoelting and his wife, Jill of Orleans and Gary Stoelting of Orleans; sisters-in-law: Sheri Fischer of North Platte, Nebraska; Sandra Wheeler of Lincoln, Nebraska; Kimberly Duvenhorst and her husband Peter of Levitown, New York; Jennifer Wilson and her fiancé, Darin of Cheyenne, Wyoming; brothers-in-law: Martin Fischer of Sutherland, Nebraska; Stephen Merrell and his wife, Talane of Cheyenne, Wyoming; John Merrell and his wife, Shawna of Quinlan, Texas; Michael Merrell and his wife, Julie of Mt. Juliet, Tennessee; Patrick Merrell and his wife, Deann of Hot Springs, Arkansas; Kelly Merrell and his wife, Shelly of Kathleen, Georgia; along with a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. 

     A visitation will be held on ​Tuesday, November 14, 2023, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Orleans.

     The rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Orleans.

     A memorial has been established in John’s honor, and kindly suggested to the Orleans Fire and Rescue.
