He was born February 15, 1944, on the family farm 3 miles south of Stamford. He was the youngest of 5 children born to Clare and Ethel (Anderson) Lans. Dean attended and graduated from Stamford High School with the class of 1962. He loved to play football and was honored that he was able to help lead their 6-man football team to the State Championship in both his junior and senior years.

In 1962, Dean married his high school sweetheart, Billie Jean Howell, and they spent 62 wonderful years together. They were blessed with 2 children: Michael and Christine.

Dean felt very blessed as he was able to do what he loved most. He farmed with his dad until he retired and then with his brother, Larry. They split up their operation in 1982 when Dean started farming with his son, Mike full-time until his retirement.

He was a member of the Evangelical Free Church and later, the New Wine Fellowship in Orleans. He accepted Christ as his Savior at a young age. His mother led him to the Lord after attending a revival meeting at their church and later, he was baptized.

Dean and Billie loved spending time with their family, friends, and their church family. They especially looked forward to reunions with their extended family. They also enjoyed camping and traveling. Two memorable trips included one to the West Coast and one to the East Coast with Dean’s brother, Norman, and his family.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his in-laws, Raymond Howell, Joy Ann McInturf, and Glenn McInturf; his grandson, Lucas Lans; three brothers: Norman Lans; Larry Lans; and Frank Lans in infancy; three brothers-in-law: Ron Stafford; Terry Henricks; and Gayle Tams; two sisters-in-law: Catherine Lans; and Shelly Rapp; and nephew, David Stafford.
