Memorial Services for Darwin D. Johnson will be held on Tuesday, April 20, 2021, at 10:30 a.m. at the Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Holdrege, Nebraska with Pastor Nora Mendyk officiating.  An inurnment will be held at the Stamford Cemetery at Stamford, Nebraska, following the service.

Darwin Dale Johnson, 88 years of age, of Holdrege, Nebraska, passed away on Friday, December 11, 2020, at the Christian Homes Care Community in Holdrege. Darwin was born on May 11, 1932, at Scotia, Nebraska, one of eight children born to Ivan and Lyla (Welsh) Johnson.  Darwin received his education from Scotia Public Schools, and then pursued higher education from Kearney State College.  He met his future bride, Genevieve “Genny” Lane during this time.

On June 3, 1951, Darwin was united in marriage to Genny Lane at the family farm near Stamford, Nebraska.  God blessed his union with two children:  Kathleen and Craig.  Darwin worked as a traveling salesman and advertiser for many years, specializing in calendars, pens and other advertising specialties. He also spent much of his “free time”, repairing and keeping up their rental properties.

Darwin was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Holdrege.

Darwin was preceded in death by his parents; father-in-law, and mother-in-law, Floyd and Mildred (Runcie) Lane; two brothers:  DeLyle and Katie Johnson; and Donald and Betty Johnson; one sister, Dorene Barnes; three brothers-in-law: Ronald and Jackie Lane; Gary Jensen; and Larry Barta.

Darwin is survived by: his wife, Genny Johnson of Holdrege; one daughter, Kathy McInturf and her husband, Brad of Holdrege; and one son, Craig Johnson and his wife, Diane of Cortland, Nebraska; one grandson: Jared Johnson and his wife, Jessica of Lincoln, Nebraska; three great-grandchildren:  Eli, Zack, and Jase Johnson; one brother, Dean Johnson and his wife, Shirley of Fullerton, Nebraska; three sisters:  Darlene Jensen of North Loup, Nebraska; Deanna Barta of Elyria, Nebraska; and Delores Bennett and her husband, Allen of Palmer, Nebraska; brother-in-law, Byron Barnes; along with several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

The family has honored Darwin’s wish for cremation, there will be no visitation or memorial book signing.

A memorial has been established in Darwin’s honor and kindly suggested to the Alzheimer’s Association or to the Christian Homes Care Community.
