Daniel Valjean Peterson, 79, of Holdrege

A Memorial Service for Daniel V. Peterson will be held on Saturday, July 20, 2024, at 10:30 a.m. at Bethel Lutheran Church in Holdrege, Nebraska, with Reverend Jan Gluth King officiating.

A private inurnment will be held prior to the service at the Prairie Home Cemetery at Holdrege, with Military Honors provided by the Martin-Horn American Legion Post #66 in conjunction with the United States Army Funeral Honors Team.

Daniel’s memorial service will be live-streamed and posted to the Bethel Lutheran Church’s Facebook Page.

Daniel Valjean Peterson, 79 years of age, of Holdrege, passed away, on Saturday, July 13, 2024, at his home near Holdrege. Daniel was born in Holdrege, on September 4, 1944, the eldest of two children, born to Quinten and Leona (Enquist) Peterson. He received his education from Rural District #53 School near Holdrege.  Daniel attended school at Funk Public School through the 8th Grade and then attended and graduated from Holdrege High School, with the class of 1962. Daniel received an American Farmer Degree and was a FFA State Officer, during his school years.

Following his education, Daniel enlisted in the United States Army and served during the Korean Conflict. On February 23, 1968, he was honorably discharged and continued to serve in the Army Reserves.

Daniel was united in marriage to Carole Cain at the First Baptist Church in Holdrege and to this union, three children were born: Drew, Leah, and Lans. The couple made their home on the farm east of Holdrege, where Daniel engaged in his life’s passion of farming and ranching in the area.

On July 10, 1993, Daniel was united in marriage to Hulda Jensen at Bethel Lutheran Church. Together they enjoyed attending their grandchildren’s activities and spending time with their family.

Daniel spent a lot of time in nature and enjoyed hunting. He also enjoyed working with his cattle and loved to work with horses.

He was a member of Bethel Lutheran Church, where he served in many capacities through the years.

Daniel was preceded in death by his parents; stepmother, Wilma (Heidenreich) Peterson; two brothers-in-law:  Bruce Swanson; and Duane Trautman; and a sister-in-law, Maggie Presler and husband, LeRoy.

He is survived by his wife, Hulda Peterson of Holdrege; their children: Drew Peterson and his wife, Irina of Homosassa, Florida; Leah Kuehn and her husband, Kevin of Kenesaw, Nebraska; Lans Peterson of Holdrege; James Jensen and his wife, Terri of Aurora, Nebraska, Bradley Jensen of Holdrege; and Alisha Jensen of Holdrege; grandchildren: Tyler Peterson; Athena Peterson; Dyllan Kuehn; Brooke Cermak and her husband, Lane; Trevor Kuehn; Nick Kuehn; Clayt Peterson; and Adalyn Peterson; step-grandchildren:  Kerragen Kracl and husband, Matt; Keagen Jensen; Ashlyn and Jymmie Jensen; one great-granddaughter: Emery Cermak; two step-great-granddaughters:  Maevyn Kracl; and Everleigh Jensen; sister, Alice Ann Swanson of Holdrege; brothers-in-law:  Marvin Miller and wife, JoAnn; three sisters-in-law: Darlene Trautman; Janet Henke and husband, John; and LorRaine Rivinius and husband, Ralph; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

A memorial book signing will be held on Friday, July 19, 2024, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Holdrege, with family greeting friends from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
