A Funeral Service for Ardis E. J. Proctor will be held on Saturday, November 13, 2021, at 10:00 a.m. at the First Baptist Church in Oxford, Nebraska with Pastor Brian Jenkins officiating. Interment will follow at the Prairie Home Cemetery in Holdrege, Nebraska.

Ardis Elaine Joyce Proctor, 89 years of age, of Oxford passed away, on November 6, 2021, at the Phelps Memorial Health Center in Holdrege. Ardis was born on the farm in the Carter Community, Nebraska on October 14, 1932, the seventh of nine children, born to Carl and Clara (Hoppe) Broeker.  She received her primary education from the Carter School and later attended and graduated from Mascot High School, with the class of 1950. In her younger years she was active in 4-H and during high school was involved in lots of class plays and one act plays.

Following her education, Ardis worked in Holdrege where she met and married Stanley Langenberg.  To this union five children were born: Diana, Anita, Marsha, Brenda, and Bart.  The family suffered many hardships with the illness of Stanley but they became a much closer family because of it.  Ardis knows she became a more understanding person.  After raising the children, she went back to work, working many years in the courthouse for the county superintendent’s office, and after that for Bart at American Auto Exchange in Kearney, Nebraska.

On February 7, 1984, Ardis was united in marriage to Carl Proctor in Las Vegas, Nevada. Carl came to Ardis at a time in her life when she needed him most.  The children were all gone and had made homes of their own.  He has brought much happiness into her life.  He is her best friend, her husband, and her sweetheart.  They did lots of hard work but they had fun times too.  The family had hard times but Carl was always a wonderful companion. One of the greatest joys in Ardis’ life has been her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Ardis said all her children have grown to be good responsible kids.  Now her hope is for them to raise their children to be the same way.

Ardis enjoyed baking and reading.  She had a beautiful garden and really loved her flowers. Above all she loved spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Ardis wrote “I haven’t accomplished any great feats in my life time. Nothing that will go down in the history books, but I have made many friends. If you want to say something about me, please just say I was your friend, because I was. Please don’t be sad about my passing.  I have lived a very full life. I have children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren to carry on and make me glad that I was a part of their life. I hope that I may have touched your life in some special way. My life has been very fulfilling.”

Besides her parents, Ardis was preceded in death by, her daughter, Diana; her first husband Stanley Langenberg; her siblings: Oral Broeker and his wife, Pearl; Marjorie Dyas and her husband, Dick; Berniece McQuiston and her husband, Rolland; Kenneth Broeker and his wife, LoRee; Wallace Broeker and his wife, Ortha; Louise Broeker who passed in infancy; Carla Freeburg and her husband, Laval; and Robert Broeker; brothers-in-law: Milton Thulin; Doug York; and Harold Brown.
