Seward, Neb. — A Seward woman died following a collision between an SUV and a tractor at a rural Seward County intersection northeast of Seward.

The Seward County Sheriff’s Office was called to the scene on Thursday, August 22, at approximately 8:00 a.m.

A release says the tractor was eastbound on Old Mill Road and the SUV was westbound on the same road. A collision occurred when the tractor turned north on 238th Road, colliding with the SUV.

The operator of the tractor, 65-year-old Cidric L. Beckler of Seward was uninjured and immediately went to the aid of the SUV driver.

The driver of the SUV was transported to Seward Memorial Hospital and later transferred to Bryan West Medical Center. The driver of the SUV was identified as 34-year-old Jamie E. Calmus of Seward.

Calmus was later pronounced deceased at Bryan Medical. Three children traveling in the SUV were uninjured. The Sheriff’s Office determined seat belts were in use in the SUV and alcohol was not a factor in the accident.

Garland Fire and Rescue, Seward Police Department, Nebraska State Patrol and the Seward County Roads Department responded to the scene.

The accident remains under investigation by the Seward County Sheriff’s Office and the Nebraska State Patrol.
