The 40th annual O’Neill Summerfest is taking place this weekend, July 18-21. The celebration will feature performances of the award-winning O’Neill Summerfest Rodeo. The rodeo has won Small Purse Rodeo of the Year honors eight times from the Mid States Rodeo Association.
In addition to the standard rodeo events, the O’Neill Summerfest Rodeo will feature the mixed team roping, an event that allows for cowgirls to compete alongside cowboys. Rodeo stock will be provided by McKay Rodeo Company.
Rodeo committee member Lori Havranek says the rodeo is a chance to witness the contestants’ hard work firsthand.
“The silent communication between the horses and riders is just amazing,” said Havranek. “It’s a great way to see the time and effort that has been put in.”
Rodeo tickets are available in advance at a number of local businesses. Otherwise, tickets will be available for purchase at the gate.
